Cass Cheesar Architects brings over fifteen years of experience in a variety of project types including single family residence, urban infill, commercial and educational. We are a full service design-build firm concentrating on residential and light commercial projects of all scales.

Cass Cheesar, AIA

In 1987, Cass Cheesar received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University and later went on to obtain a Masters in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. Cass began his architectural career in Dallas, Texas in 1995 while working under an award winning architect, Gary Cunningham, FAIA. During his time with Gary Cunningham, Cass worked on several notable projects including the Cistercian Library in Irving, TX and a private residence in New Zealand. Since this apprenticeship, Cass has worked in Austin as a Project Manager and Designer for Black and Vernooy Architects, MJ Neal Architect, and TeamHass. Cass is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Austin Green Building Program, and the Texas Society of Architects. Cass has served as a Studio Juror at UT Austins'Vertical Studio in 2008 & 2009.

Carla Umlauf-Cheesar

Carla Umlauf-Cheesar is Cass's wife. They have collaborated on building projects since the day they met. She has deep Austin roots, a well-rounded building knowledge and an instinctive artistic eye. Carla has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and she is also a licensed Realtor with AvenueOne Properties. Carla can help with site selection, advising of the market conditions, and the building investment cap for specific neighborhoods. In addition, Carla offers design consultation, assists with material selections, stages projects once complete, and arranges for photo shoots. She is the co-founder and host of the "Architecture at the Umlauf" lecture series which provides local architects the opportunity to speak about their work to the general public.

Chip Patterson

Chip Patterson graduated from Texas A&M University in 1996 with a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Design and studied art on the Arthur Light Scholarship in Florence, Italy. Chip began his career as an artist 15 years ago with Austin Based Origin/Electronics Art. Through his work, Chip has created several digital environments for the gaming industry. Chip assists with 3D rendering, hand rendering, and program presentation. He also provides an insightful eye during the design phase of each project.

LonAnne Culver

LonAnne's dad was a roping cowboy from Clarendon, Texas. She was born in an Amarillo blizzard and gew up in Salado. LonAnne obtained her Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs from Southwestern University in Georgetown which launched her travels to Japan where she found her love for design. Before teaming up with Cass Cheesar Architects, LonAnne was a design consultant for a local general contractor. She has also worked as a professional organizer and her work has been featured on HGTV. Currently, LonAnne oversees remodeling projects, assists with space planning, and the organizational needs of the program. She reviews bid estimate's, manages the permitting phase, and advises on material selections.
